On this week’s The Morning Show, a paparazzi photo of Alex and Paul Marks clearly being romantic is about to be released by the tabloids, and Alex is unhappy about that, in part because it might interfere with the sale of UBN. Paul Marks tries to pay his way out of the mess, but short of buying the tabloid, it’s not going to work. Elsewhere, Cory drags Bradley along to meet his mother, a political consultant who may be able to help Cory out of a jam with the DOJ over the sale. The day does not go well; Cory’s mom is passive-aggressively manipulative and kind of unpleasant. Now we know why Cory is the way he is: Always trying to please. The Roe vs. Wade decision leaks and everyone gets pissed off. Stella tells Cory that Paul Marks plans to fire him and give her his job; Cory tells her to sign the contract. I have no idea what Cory’s game is here, but I’m intrigued. Finally, Chip — who has been in love with Alex for years and years and years — spies Alex and Paul Marks making out. He is flabbergasted.
With that out of the way, here are answers to the most search terms over the last 24 hours pertaining to The Morning Show.
— Jennifer Aniston’s Age — No one ever searches to see how old men are, but for the record, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Aniston are close to the same age (he’s two years younger). Personally, I don’t like the two together on the series. I think it’s because I know they are friends in real life, and so their chemistry feels platonic, not sexual.
— Billy Crudup Singing — Yes, that is Billy Crudup singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” at the piano with his mom. I’m not sure why that was a popular search because it’s not a particularly impressive singing performance. If they were going to get someone else, I’d imagine they’d have had a better singing voice.
— Geraldine Ferraro — This one is fun. Cory’s Mom used to work for Geraldine Ferraro, and Bradley is taken by that. For those under the age of 30 who do not know who Ferarro is, she was the first female candidate for Vice President on a major party ticket. She was Walter Mondale’s running mate. They lost very badly to Reagan (as I recall, the only state that Mondale won was his home state of Minnesota). That was 1984. It took another 32 years before a woman was on a Presidential ticket for a major party again. That was Hillary Clinton in 2016. Four more years later, however, Kamala Harris became the first woman to win the Vice Presidency. I hope we don’t have to wait 32 more years to see a female President.
Here’s a picture of Ferraro in 1984 with Mondale. She’s 6 years younger than Aniston here.
— Valentino — In 2010, Jennifer Aniston wore a fancy Valentino dress to the Golden Globes. In this week’s episode, she wore a replica of the same dress. Cool?
— Jon Hamm Height — Huh. I guess Googlers want to know the age of women but the height of men. Jon Hamm is 6’1. Happy?
— Past Lives — Greta Lee, who plays Stella, also starred in the movie Past Lives, which came out earlier this year. It’s very good. You should watch it.
— Natalie Morales Actress — In the episode, Stella’s college roommate — whom we met briefly two episodes ago — returns because she’s been fired by Paul Marks’ other company, Hyperion. She is furious with Stella for selling out to Paul Marks. She’s played by Natalie Morales, who you may know from Parks and Recreation or half a dozen sitcoms that were probably canceled too soon (Abby, The Grinder, etc.). She’s very good but has had some bad luck in that department.
— Lindsay Duncan — There are several searches for Lindsay Duncan, who plays Cory’s mom on the series. She’s a great character actress who has been around a long time and is best known for roles in Birdman, Under the Tuscan Sun, and a lot of British television series and indie films. Here’s a picture of her from 1987 standing next to Alan Rickman, and along with Lyn Redgrave and James Earl Jones. They’re at the Tony Awards.
— Amanda — There are a few searches for variations on “Amanda from The Morning Show. They want to know who plays Amanda. It’s Tig Notaro. Amanda is Paul Marks’ fixer. Her role is small, but she’s badass.
This was fun.
