Well, it finally happened. Former Vanderpump Rules and current The Valley star Brittany Cartwright has officially filed for divorce from husband and reality tv menace, Jax Taylor. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation, is petitioning for both of them to be blocked from receiving spousal support, and is seeking primary custody of their three-year-old son, Cruz.
This is, in the Bravo universe, both the biggest news in a long time and the least surprising. How many times should Brittany have left Jax in the dust? Let me count the ways:
1. When they met at a bar in Vegas in 2015. “I was anti-marriage,” said the then-number-one guy in the group. “I was never, never, ever going to get married. It was not in the cards for me…Then I met Brittany, and everything changed.”
2. When he asked her to move to L.A. two weeks later.
3. When he cheated on her in 2017, after lying about it. “Tell me the truth. You did have sex with her?” Cartwright said in their ultimate confrontation. “Yes, it’s true. Yes. It was when we were going through bad times,” Taylor said. Oh, bad times? Well, in that case, never mind. “Rot in hell,” Cartwright responded. Guess she doesn’t agree.
4. A month later, when she forgave him and took him back. “I was raised to be a good Christian woman, and that is all about forgiveness, and I believe everybody deserves it…even Jax,” she said, encouraging Taylor to seek out therapeutic treatment, adding, “I know we’re probably going to get into arguments every now and then because that’s just how life is, but the way you talk to me has got to change.”
5. A few months later, when he broke up with her on camera, after not changing the way he talked to her. “It has nothing to do with you, and I need to make some changes. You deserve to be happy, you deserve to get married, you deserve to have kids, you deserve to have someone treat you like the princess that you are, and I am just not that person.” At least he’s self-aware!
6. A few months later, when they got engaged. Problematic relationship? Put a ring on it!
7. A year after that, when they bought a house together. Problematic engagement? Put a mortgage on it!
8. About a month after that, when they got married. “We know we love each other. We know we want to be together. We’re just really excited. Just really happy to be where we are right now,” Taylor said at the time. Sounds…super happy!!
9. On their first anniversary, when she posted a gushing Instagram and he posted a picture on his stories of their dogs sitting next to a bouquet and a card sent from a friend with the caption “Can’t believe that year flew by so quick.”
10. A few months after that, when they announced they were leaving Vanderpump Rules. “He will go down as one of the biggest reality stars in their moment,” Andy Cohen said of Taylor.
11. Three years later, when they announced they’d be a part of the new spinoff, The Valley, and then after every time he spoke to her while filming. The way he treated his wife on season one of that show was so outrageous, it made Tom Sandoval look like a decent guy. There have been rumblings of more cheating since, but nothing that holds water. Who knows what straw finally broke this camel’s back—the point is, it broke. Now if only she could break that business partnership and get out of that gross sport’s bar.
