In the beginning, there was a playful animosity between Nick and Jess.

Then Nick fell in love with Jess’ boyfriend (played by Dermot Mulroney).

Nick proved, afterwards, that regardless of any romantic attraction, he cared about Jess.

He wanted what was best for Jess.

She wanted what was best for him.

He built her a dresser.

They tried to deny their feelings, while admitting their attraction.

But the flirtation continued.

Eventually, they would kiss. And man, that was a kiss.

For Jess, Nick tried to be a better person, but a better person wasn’t Nick.

They tried to bury their feelings again, but it was useless.

Eventually, they would sleep together.

Jess got what she wanted.

But Nick is kind of a mess, and nearly f**ked it up, again.

So Nick called it … but Jess uncalled it.

And they kissed again.

… and they lived happily ever after, at least until season three.
