There are a few statistics from today’s Emmy nominations that I’m sure everyone wants to know: Succession led all shows with 25, followed by Ted Lasso (20) and White Lotus (20). Overall, HBO also edged Netflix in nominations 108-105. There were also a lot of snubs, which we addressed earlier, as well as several series that probably shouldn’t have received as many nominations as they did (Inventing Anna, Pam and Tommy).

I want to acknowledge some of the overlooked nominations in the more obscure categories. Did you know that there are 58 pages of Emmy nominations? There are nominations for writing, directing, sound, editing, prosthetics, separate categories for contemporary costumes and period costumes, as well as separate categories for contemporary and period make-up. Most of those, honestly, were just more nominations for the shows that had already been nominated multiple times.

Here are a few of the standout nominations in those less-discussed categories:

The phenomenal How to with John Wilson on HBO, for instance, landed a nod for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program. Let that be a reminder to watch.

Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special is a solid category, too. Fellas: I do not recommend watching Ali Wong’s special with your significant others.

Ali Wong: Don Wong
The Daily Show With Trevor Noah Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers The Globe
Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel
Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo)
Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special

We’ve often complained that the Oscars do not give awards for stunt performances. The Emmys do, so let’s acknowledge them:

Outstanding Stunt Performance
Barry, Clay Cullen, Stunt Performer David Castillo, Stunt Performer Jolene Van Vugt, Stunt Performer Chris Morrison, Stunt Performer
The Blacklist, Chad Michael Hessler, Stunt Performer
Hawkeye, Carl Richard Burden, Stunt Performer Noon Orsatti, Stunt Performer, Renae Moneymaker, Stunt Performer Crystal Hooks, Stunt Performer
Moon Knight, Daren Nop, Stunt Performer Jamel Blissat, Stunt Performer Estelle Darnault, Stunt Performer Sara Leal, Stunt Performer
Squid Game, Lim Tae-hoon, Stunt Performer Shim Sang-min, Stunt Performer Kim Cha-i, Stunt Performer
Lee Tae-young, Stunt Performer
Stranger Things, Matthew Scheib, Stunt Performer Jura Yury Kruze, Stunt Performer

In no f**king way news, the interminable, punishing “Elliot’s Song” from Euphoria was nominated for best music and lyrics. It’s bad.

I know that the phenomenal Pachinko was otherwise left out of the nominations, but at least it gained a nom for what is the best main title sequence of the year, although I’m sure the voters will give it to Severance.

Outstanding Main Title Design
Candy
Cowboy Bebop
Foundation
Lisey’s Story
Only Murders In The Building
Pachinko
Severance

Just watch this sequence. It’s so delightful. How can you watch Youn Yuh-jung dance and not want to watch this now?

Outstanding Competition Program is usually the one that gets the most attention, but did you know that Reality Programming is broken up into two categories: Structured and Unstructured.

Outstanding Structured Reality Program
Antiques Roadshow
Fixer Upper: Welcome Home
Love Is Blind
Queer Eye

Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program
Below Deck Mediterranean
Cheer
Love On The Spectrum U.S.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked
Selling Sunset

Britney fans will appreciate the acknowledgment of the documentary category.

Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special
Controlling Britney Spears
George Carlin’s American Dream
Lucy And Desi
The Tinder Swindler
We Feed People

There’s also a category for short-form reality programming, which seems to go to offshoots of long-form reality programming. I’m happy to see the best part of Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show here, though.

Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction Or Reality Series
“Between The Scenes” - The Daily Show
“Full Frontal With Samantha Bee Presents: Once Upon A Time In Late Night”
“RuPaul’s Drag Race Whatcha Packin’ With Michelle Visage”
“Saturday Night Live Presents: Stories From The Show “
“Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen”

Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series is a weird jumble of nominees, but we’re stoked to see Seth Meyers’ Corrections land here, as well as I Think You Should Leave.
“Carpool Karaoke: The Series”
“Late Night With Seth Meyers CORRECTIONS”
“The Randy Rainbow Show”
“Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News”

Tim Robinson got another nomination in the Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series category, which is a good moment to remind you of the funniest two minutes of the last year.

Yes, Dave Chappelle was sadly nominated against some odd competition. Go … Norm Macdonald?

Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)
Adele: One Night Only
Dave Chappelle: The Closer
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts
Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special
One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga

Narrators get their own category, too. I bet Attenborough wins every year.

Black Patriots: Heroes Of The Civil War, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Narrator
The Mating Game: In Plain Sight, David Attenborough, Narrator
We Need To Talk About Cosby, W. Kamau Bell, Narrator
Serengeti II, Lupita Nyong’o, Narrator
Our Great National Parks, Barack Obama, Narrator

In the voice-over category, there are two posthumous nominations for Jessica Walter and Chadwick Boseman, although it’s hard not to give it to Maya “Bubble Bath” Rudolph.

Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance
Moon Knight, F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu
Bridgerton, Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown
What If…?, Chadwick Boseman as Star Lord T’Challa
Big Mouth, Maya Rudolph as Connie The Hormone Monstress
Central Park, Stanley Tucci as Bitsy
Archer, Jessica Walter as Malory Archer
What If…?, Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher

Rhea Seehorn actually received two nominations today. The other was for a YouTube short series called “Cooper’s Bar,” where she stars as Kris Latimer.

Finally, I always love to see who picks up nominations in the Guest Actor/Actress categories. In past years, there were usually a few SNL hosts, but there’s only one this time around: Jerrod Carmichael. I also wonder if Kaitlin Olson is the first It’s Always Sunny star to get an Emmy nom?
