Cold and Flu season is upon us. That means we will see another surge in COVID cases. Some places are already experiencing that. People, mostly those who won’t get vaccinated, are once again filling up the ICU. They’re taking away beds and care from those with non-COVID-related issues. It’s incredibly frustrating but, The Daily Show is here to inject a little levity into the situation.

In a new sketch, Roy Wood Jr. plays Leo Deblin, a salesman with a new product: at-home ICU care! Just not very good at-home ICU care! It’s not that people don’t receive ICU care at home. Some do. It can just be incredibly expensive. Here, Deblin is pushing a product more akin to what you would receive in an actual hospital. It’s a little outdated, a little flawed, and a little impersonal.

The sketch takes advantage of Wood Jr.’s knack for wacky characters. Because of this, it makes it easier to laugh at a frustrating situation. At least, it did so for me. It feels like these COVID-related issues just won’t go away and yet, I’m left feeling powerless to change that. So, now, all I can do is laugh. It’s freeing. Until tomorrow, at least.
