As ridiculous as Riverdale has gotten — Veronica has a sister she never knew about and Betty has a serial killer gene, cue the gasps! — The CW has deemed it popular enough to get its own spinoff show, the musical dramedy Katy Keene. Not since the days of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (which… only ended this past April, wow has this year been long) has a musical taken up residence on the network.

The series, which stars Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale and is set five years after Riverdale, follows the titular character as she navigates the fashion world in New York City. After a series order from The CW back in May, Katy Keene finally has a premiere date: Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 8/7c. Mark your calendars!

Since this is a Riverdale spinoff, the one and only Ashleigh Murray will be leaving her small-town days behind her to join the cast of Katy Keene, reprising her role as the musically gifted Josie McCoy. I’m not going to lie: when this series was announced, I wondered exactly why the show wasn’t being called Josie McCoy or hell, Josie and the Pussycats.

Hear me out: Josie is already an established character, we know she can sing (which should be key on a musical show, right?), and we know she’s got the range. She was barely around on Riverdale and now she’s playing second fiddle to Katy Keene, the aspiring fashion designer on a musical show?? Make it make sense. Josie has always deserved better, so let’s hope Katy Keene at least treats her better than that other show did.

Anyway, Katey Keene also stars Camille Hyde, Jonny Beauchamp, Julia Chan, Lucien Laviscount, Zane Holtz, and Katherine LaNasa. The show will be replacing Supernatural in its time slot, with the CW vet moving to Mondays for its final episodes.
