The Boys is set to begin airing its fourth season next month. The crass, violent, hilarious show is based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. It has been a huge success for Amazon, ensnaring viewers with gripping stories set in a world of out-of-control “superheroes.” It has its cast and crew to thank for its success, and right at the heart of it is showrunner Eric Kripke.
Eric Kripke has had a successful career in television, but he is most known for creating the CW show Supernatural. The hit show followed two brothers in their fight against supernatural forces. While Kripke left the show after its fifth season, it ran for fifteen. The stars, Jared Padalecki and Jenson Ackles have maintained a good relationship with Kripke, which led to Ackles earning a recurring role on The Boys.
According to Kripke, he’d love to have Padalecki on the show. “Texts have been sent,” the showrunner told Entertainment Weekly. “I feel like it would be a bummer not to have Jared on the show one way or another at this point, even if it’s just the one-episode thing. He’s been shooting Walker, but with that show wrapping up, maybe he’ll have some time to come in and play with us. I would love it. We have definitely talked about it.”
At the time of the interview, having Padalecki on the show was mostly wishful thinking. As Kripke said, Jared’s schedule for Walker was keeping the reunion from being a reality. However, hours after the release of the quote, Walker was canceled by the CW. Padalecki went online to share the unfortunate news with fans.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you. #Walker will not be airing on [the] CW for a fifth season,” he wrote on various social media. “It’s a tough piece of news to be sure, but we are SO thankful for the #WalkerFamily that has been built, both on set and off. After four seasons together, we have felt the love and support from the entire #WalkerFamily, and we will be forever grateful.”
With the fourth season of The Boys airing next month, it is highly unlikely that Padalecki will appear in this upcoming season. However, the show was renewed for a fifth season last week. Now that Padalecki is no longer shooting Walker, he could be available to appear in the show eventually. Kripke certainly seems to want it, and with the show doing as well as it has, another Supernatural reunion is all but assured.
