Tarik Davis Hosts The Only Game Show You Need Right Now

COVID-19 is still very much a problem. If that fact messes with your worldview, well, honestly, I don’t care. People from all walks of life are still much too lackadaisical when it comes to the ongoing pandemic that is ravaging our planet. So, the folks at The Amber Ruffin show devised a fun game show to address everyone’s blasé attitudes!

The game is simple: Come up with a correct answer to the question “You partyin’ for what now?” It should (hopefully) be easy to guess that there is no correct answer. However, Amber, the show’s only contestant, still tries her darnedest. Eventually, this leads to an impassioned plea from the host, Tarik Davis, to take the pandemic more seriously.

From the beginning, the sketch hits all the right notes. Tarik and Amber have brilliant chemistry. They play off of each other with such skill and ease that I’d put them up there with any classic late-night duo. You heard me, Carson and McMahon! YOU HEARD ME!

The sketch is also a wonderful mix of silly and timely, which is the show’s sweet spot. It’s continually impressive that they have come out in their first year with such confidence in who they are, tonally and style-wise. First years for ANY show can be tough, especially when it comes to finding your own voice. The Amber Ruffin Show has not had that problem and it has been an absolute pleasure to witness.

Now, stop partying! Like Tarik, I would also like to see the new Batman movie in theaters! Dagnabbit!!
