After publicly confirming that she was not called about reprising her role in the Saved by the Bell revival series, Lark Voorhies is officially returning as Lisa Turtle! It’s great news for everyone (including myself) who believed that leaving her out was a big, huge mistake.
She’s an original cast member who was on Saved by the Bell as early as the Miss Bliss era, so the thought of leaving out the inimitable and fashion-savvy Lisa was preposterous. Voorhies admitted that she was initially hurt at being sidelined. Thankfully, the powers that be have course-corrected and I can finally watch this revival in peace.
Per Peacock, “when the show picks up with Lisa, she is thriving with a successful career in fashion.” Yes! Good for her. This is on par with Lisa’s life-long goals on the show. The last time we checked in with her was during Saved by the Bell: The College Years and she was studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
All that said, it’s unclear when Lisa will pop into the show or in how many episodes she will be in. The Peacock Twitter account reveals a “special appearance,” so I’m not holding my breath for her to appear for more than an episode. But, I’m still holding out hoping she’ll recur like Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tiffani Thiessen — only Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are series regulars (Slater and Jessie both work at Bayside High). Dustin Diamond is now the only original cast member who will not appear (and honestly, that’s absolutely fine).
Saved by the Bell will premiere on November 25 on Peacock. And yes, I will actually be subscribing to this service now.
