James Corden no longer occupies the 12:30 slot on CBS. I guess that he needed more time to follow his true passion, being a prick to the wait staff. Since he announced his departure, people have been wracking their brains to figure out who would take his spot next. It’s an illustrious spot, no matter what Corden did to it. At first, we got an answer as to what the show would be: a revamping of @midnight. Now, we know who the host will be.
As a producer on the show (because CBS likes to keep him happy), Stephen Colbert introduced the show to his audience. It won’t be @midnight exactly. The new show will be a revamping called After Midnight. We don’t have any details on how different it will be, just a name that correlates with the time it will be on TV. Colbert also revealed the host, and she is a perfect choice.
I was first made aware of Taylor Tomlinson through her Netflix Special Look At You. A friend insisted I watch it, and it did not disappoint. I was astounded to learn how young she was. Age is just a number, etc., but there is a wisdom to her stand-up that makes her seem much older than she is. She’s also incredibly personable, which will make her perfect for a late-night desk.
Her introduction by Colbert is an excellent launching pad for Tomlinson. Audiences were treated to all of her best qualities in about five minutes. She’s confident but humble. They show a screencap of her Zoom meeting when she learned she got the job, and it’s as endearing as can be. The only downside to this whole bag is it feels like a big switch that has pigeonholed people in the past. It isn’t easy to move on from late-night. But Taylor is barely thirty. Her career is already impressive, but it’s barely begun.
