Choosing between ride-share apps can be a hassle. If it’s not for you, enjoy your walkable paradise, reliable transit system, or car you can drive without worrying about parking. The rest of us are on the lookout for an Uber service that will l[y]ft our problems away like a … taxi. Well, our problems are solved thanks to the folks at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!
On the latest episode of Colbert’s late-night talk show, he introduced Midwestern Dad, a ride-share program piloted by, you guessed it, midwestern dads! I practically squealed when the driver in question was revealed to be Brian Stack. The former Conan writer, and current Colbert writer, is tailor-made for this part. You’d almost think they just put him in a car and sent him off to pick up passengers.
The dad stereotypes are flying with fury in this bit. Stopping at hardware stores, staring awkwardly through the rearview mirror, offering the passenger a twenty as they arrive at the airport, it’s all pretty spot-on. Though, the part that hit hardest for me was the blasting of Steely Dan. I’ve loved Steely Dan my whole life, but even I’m aware that, 18 months into my time as a father, my listening to the band has increased significantly. They rock!
I loved this sketch, and the Midwestern Mom tag at the end is perfect.
