Do Robot Dreams Mean Anything? 'Westworld' Season Two Gets Philosophical... And Bloody
A reckoning is coming in the new season of Westworld, and HBO’s latest trailer gives us a good look at the fallout. All set to an excellent rendition of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” because it isn’t Westworld without on-the-nose yet haunting soundtrack choices:
“Here we are, a kind that will never know death, and yet we’re fighting to live.”
The Hosts’ fight will take them to new parks, and maybe even the outside world, based on the footage in this trailer. Delores is a warrior badass, but also ends up with Teddy at a very non-Western themed party. Maeve is looking for her daughter, and appears to wind up in Shogunworld along the way. And the Man In Black continues to be a threat…
Entertainment Weekly got a secret scoop from Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy recently, which may offer hints as to the focus of the next ten episodes.
“If the first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward,” Nolan said. “This is a search for what is else is beyond the park, and what else is in the park. Are there more parks? How big is the park? What’s beyond the park? We think of our seasons as discrete components in the series, to the point where we’ve named our seasons. The first season was called ‘The Maze.’ The second season is called ‘The Door.’”
And that door will start opening when Westworld returns on April 22nd.
