4/20 was (checks notes) two days ago? This week really got away from me. Not because I was high, but because, as a new father to twins, I’m paranoid, constantly hungry, and consistently unsure about what day it is. Wait, AM I high?

4/20 hit a little differently this year. At least from my perspective. I saw fewer social media posts and stories celebrating the day and more calling for people who have been arrested and/or incarcerated for weed to be freed and have their records expunged (while also celebrating the day). We, as a country, have started to turn the corner in regard to legalization, but there is still lots of work to be done. As made clear by Samantha Bee in a new episode of her show Full Frontal.

Fun sidenote: the dispensary featured with Bee in the header photo is from my hometown of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Or, at least, the same county. Surprise surprise, they’ve been very successful and have several locations.

Bee discussed the notion that, while some states have legalized weed, it still needs to be legalized on a federal level for there to be a real difference. There is, however, still some pushback against that. Even from Joe “I just want to be liked” Biden. It’s an eye-opening look at why, while we have come a long way, there’s still a long way to go (have I made that clear enough?).
