We’re less than two weeks away from the 2020 Presidential Election! Given how 2020 has gone so far, I bet it’s going to be great! JK! I’m grinding my teeth down to broken little nubs. To make things worse (while emphasizing something SUPER important) here comes Samantha Bee with a group of political candidates who lost by incredibly tight margins.

As Bee states early on in the segment, “Saying that voting matters is the new Got Milk commercial.” It’s true! Many celebrities from all walks of fame have come out to urge people to vote. In my humble opinion, Samantha Bee’s message has been one of the most important and (hopefully) effective.

She hops on a video call with Terry Bouricius, who lost an election by one vote. Sarah Buxton, who won by one vote and then lost by one vote. Tiffany Caban, who lost by .06 of one percent of the vote. And, perhaps the most maddening, Tanya Flanagan, who tied and then lost by a card draw! A CARD DRAW.

What is so important about this chat Samantha Bee has is not just how razor-thin these election results were, it’s that they were local. Local elections can be just as, if not more, important than bigger ones. As Flanagan points out, “the people that you see in Washington started somewhere. So if you’re not engaged in the process at the local level, that’s the grooming point. You need to pick that person early cause you’re going to have them later, nine times out of ten.”

I think that about sums it up. Go vote, y’all. Please. Early if you can. I’ll wait… … …
