'Fear the Walking Dead' Is the Worst-Written Show on TV

In this week’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead, Dwight — after leaving Sherry a few episodes ago — returned to his old home and pouted. He met a man named Jay who needed insulin, which Jay insisted could only be retrieved from the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is the old home of Negan and his Saviors. Dwight was a Savior, having joined way back in the day after trying to … retrieve insulin for Sherry’s sister.

Dwight returns to the Sanctuary and encounters a man named Paul, who Dwight throws into the same furnace that Negan used to burn half of Dwight’s face back in season seven of The Walking Dead. Dwight returns to Jay with the insulin, but it’s too late. Jay is dead. Dwight pouts some more, whining that Daryl should have killed him at the end of season … eight, I think?

That’s when Sherry returns with June. They need Dwight’s help to maintain PADRE. Sherry insists that Dwight help them build it into something to honor the memory of their son, Finch. Also, a girl named Dove needs their help. Dwight whines some more, says there is no point, and wants to die. Soon after that, the girl named Dove gets herself shot in the leg by a man named Marty, who was friends with Paul.

Marty promises to provide them with the necessary medical supplies to treat Dove if they allow the burnt-zombie version of Paul to kill Dwight. Dwight is ready to give himself up, but Sherry starts shooting. Dwight, Sherry, and June escape and return to the Sanctuary with Dove to retrieve the medical supplies.

There, they reencounter Marty. Dwight opens up the furnace and unleashes crispy Paul on Marty. A minute later, the Sanctuary starts to crumble around them, so Dwight and Co. seek refuge inside the stove, which conveniently stops burning. After the Sanctuary falls, Dwight decides to help them maintain PADRE for their son, Finch. When he looks up, he sees a finch. No, I am not kidding.

In sum: Dwight breaks up with Sherry, returns to their shared home, encounters a situation nearly identical to the first one that brought him to the Sanctuary in season six of TWD, burns a man in the same furnace responsible for Dwight’s burnt face, then seeks shelter in that furnace as the Sanctuary collapses around him. He and Sherry reunite and see the bird their dead son is named after.

This is the worst-written series on television.

There is one final scene: We learn that Victor has kidnapped Troy Otto’s daughter and plans to use her as leverage to save PADRE. I cannot believe that the final season is about keeping an entity that abducted children from their parents to raise them better. How is this real?
