For weeks, the one-two punch of Game of Thrones and Rick and Morty has made Sunday nights a time of fucked up family dynamics, mad plot twists, and some jaw-dropping spectacle. So could these two very different shows that run on different networks at different times see each other as rivals? Some Rick and Morty fans thought so when they spotted a seemingly shade-throwing title card after last night’s new episode.
Twitter promptly went wild.

Lol maybe take that misplaced rage & direct it toward @GRRMspeaking.— Paul Duncan (@Duncapa) August 28, 2017
When some sites started treating an Adult Swim bumper joke as entertainment news, the official Rick and Morty Twitter account brought a schwifty close to this would-be battle of fans.
We had nothing to do with that game of thrones bumper after last night's ep. We hadn't seen it, that was all @adultswim. We ❤️Thrones.— Rick (((and Morty))) (@RickandMorty) August 28, 2017
Stop writing think pieces about it, you maniacs. We are pro Ice and Fire.— Rick (((and Morty))) (@RickandMorty) August 28, 2017
And for good measure, the show’s co-creator Justin Roiland added:
Just FYI, we had nothing to do with the GOT adult swim bumper from last night. Didn't even notice it.— Justin Roiland (@JustinRoiland) August 28, 2017
So there’s no beef. You can like both shows, and go back to spinning out crazy-ass fan theories.
