NBC Boots "Community." The Heavens Open Up, Hellfire Rains Down. BEWARE THE TROLL

Our worst fears have come to pass, folks. Despite the fact that “Community” has struggled along amiably, despite the fact that it’s survived bottom of the barrel ratings, and despite the fact that it was picked up for a full season, NBC has booted the show from Thursday nights. In fact, it’s nowhere to be seen on the network’s mid-season schedule.

It has not, however, been cancelled. In fact, it may return after a brief hiatus, though it’s unlikely to return to Thursdays, as “30 Rock” will take its place on the schedule, while “Up All Night” moves from Wednesday nights to the post-“The Office” slot currently occupied by “Whitney” (a suggestion we made here two months ago).

But don’t worry: the worst show on television, ‘Whitney,’ will not be cancelled. NBC doesn’t cancel anything (see, e.g., “Chuck’”). “Whitney” will move to the “Up All Night” slot on Wednesdays and be paired with the Chelsea Handler sitcom, “Are You There, Chelsea?” Oh, good fortunes! We can now ignore NBC on Wednesdays. In fact, once “Parenthood” has its season finale on February 28th, we can ignore NBC completely, except for Thursdays.

Speaking of Thursdays, the very good Maria Bello procedural, “Prime Suspect” is not on the mid-season schedule, either. It was also a victim of low ratings, and will be replaced by the television version of John Grisham’s “The Firm.”

Other items of note on the NBC mid-season schedule: “Chuck” wraps up its series run the last week of January, and will be replaced by “”Who Do You Think You Are?” “Rock Center with Brian Williams” moves from Mondays to Wednesday’s at 9 EST, while the Broadway rip-off of “Glee,” “Smash” will begin its run on Mondays after the return of “The Voice.” Meanwhile, “Celebrity Apprentice” will return, now on Sundays, where it will be paired with “Harry’s Law.”

Is it possible to firebomb a timeslot?

Here’s the complete mid-season schedule. Let us bow our heads and BOOOO.
