Matty Saracen Goes Full Hannibal Lecter On the Next Season of 'Criminal Minds: Evolution'

I didn’t watch much of the original Criminal Minds run, but I got sucked in to the first season of the streaming continuation, Criminal Minds: Evolution. Part of the appeal in it — aside from Paget Brewster and Aisha Tyler, natch — was in seeing Zach Gilford, Matty Saracen from Friday Night Lights, play the serial killer. Not only was he a family man, and not only did he serially murder, he also had a network of serial killers under his influence. So, like, Dexter crossed with Charles Manson.

Clearly, the series liked having Gilford around, as well, because even after being apprehended, they’re bringing him back for the next season, where he will add Silence of the Lambs to the show’s influences. He will play a serial killer who helps serial killer profilers to profile serial killers from inside his prison cell.

That should be fun. But still, gray-haired Paget Brewster remains the top draw. Criminal Minds: Evolution returns to Paramount+ on June 6th.
