Notwithstanding Saved by the Bell, Mark-Paul Gosselaar has had terrible luck with network television. He’s made three solid series in the last decade — Mixed-ish, The Passage, and especially Pitch — but they keep canceling them. But never because of Mark-Paul Gosselaar! Always in spite of Mark-Paul Gosselaar! Remember Pitch, where we were all like, “Oh shit! Adult Zack Morris is hot!”
Let’s see how we feel about Found, where he stars opposite Shameless’s Shanola Hampton. Hampton plays a public relations specialist dedicated to finding missing kids. The career choice is likely inspired by the fact that, as a kid, she was abducted by the character played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar. As an adult, Hampton’s character has Gosselaar’s character locked up in a basement, and she is using his expertise to help her find missing kids.
The twist: Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s character seems to like being chained up in a basement. It apparently scratches a particular itch. Here’s the trailer:
The series also stars a few familiar faces from network television, Kelli Williams (The Practice) and Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). NBC apparently filmed it before the strike and has what appears to be eight episodes ready to go beginning on October 3rd. Also, Will Trent is also worth checking out, if only for Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who plays a sympathetic-ish bully sleazeball.
