Not a lot of forward movement in “High Flight,” the third episode of the fourth season. We find out that the dragon scar that Cal somehow absorbed from Henry Kim glows when he listens to the black box, which has somehow crammed all of the callings into a six-second ultra-low frequency emission. Michaela grabs Danny, 828’s co-pilot, to come and listen to the black box, and he also hears the callings.

Danny is suffering from PTSD and misses having the pilot, Bill Daly, to talk to about the big ball of light they saw, which they call the “long delirious burning blue.” Cal confesses to Danny that he also saw burning blue from the passenger seat. Danny doesn’t understand how Cal could see the storm off to the side when they flew into it. They all realize that they didn’t fly into the storm. The storm flew into them. The storm chose them. The storm is sentient.

Meanwhile, Adrian — who has a safe house for wayward 828 passengers — reluctantly agrees to let Angelina and Eden stay with him. He feels conflicted; he wants to support Angelina, but he’s not crazy about the fact that she stole a human child and murdered a human woman. Adrian seeks the advice of that psycho Eagan, who is in a literal prison, so maybe Adrian doesn’t have great judgment. Eagon tells him to continue housing Angelina, protect the passengers, and stay the course. The minute Adrian leaves, however, Eagon calls Ben to tell him that he knows where Eden is. He’s probably going to try and trade that information for a reason at the commissary to shave off that ridiculous goatee.

Elsewhere, Ben and Eden are having conversations through their callings. At first, Olive thinks he’s gone nuts, but then she reveals that she can feel the callings. Ben somehow communicates to Eden to draw “Dad” in a bowl, and when Angelina sees it, she loses her shit.

All in all: A shit episode, but Ben has faith in his callings again. Maybe it’s time to shave the beard now.
