June 3rd

We Are Lady Parts: Last month Peacock introduced the aging girl group comedy Girls5Eva, and this month they are bringing over a British comedy about a struggling punk rock band made up of Muslim women. It’s probably too early to call this a theme for the platform, but I don’t hate it! Give me more funny ladies who rock! The early buzz on We Are Lady Parts is phenomenal, which tracks because the trailer is *chef’s kiss* (Peacock)

June 4th

Lisey’s Story: This isn’t just any ol’ adaptation of a Stephen King novel — this is an adaptation of the novel Stephen King has claimed is his favorite of his works, and he’s written the scripts for the 8-episode series himself. Julianne Moore stars as Lisey Landon, the widow of a famous novelist (Clive Owen) who must face the secrets he left behind. (AppleTV+)

Sweet Tooth: Based on the comic series by Jeff Lemire, this is a post-apocalyptic fairytale about a hybrid deer-boy looking for answers about the end of the world, and himself. (Netflix)

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return for this third installment of loosely-true terror, inspired by the case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Only this time instead of a haunted house, there’s some Satanic Panic and John Noble. Have I told you I will watch practically anything with John Noble? (In theaters and on HBO Max)

June 5th

Kitty Love: An Homage To Cats: It’s a documentary about the lives of a bunch of Dutch cats, I don’t need to explain myself. (Netflix)

June 8th

The Amusement Park: Shudder is debuting an exclusive horror film every week as part of its “Summer Of Chills” lineup, but this premiere deserves a special shout-out. You see, The Amusement Park is a long lost George A. Romero film, made between Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead and recently restored to 4K high definition. He was commissioned to make it by the Lutheran Society to explore elderly abuse and neglect, but it was deemed too intense and never saw the light of day — until now. (Shudder)

June 9th

Loki: Loki died a noble (for him) death in Avengers: Infinity War. And it actually stuck for awhile, until a past Loki stole the Tesseract during the time-travel shenanigans of Avengers: Endgame, and now that variant Loki is being forced to clean up the timeline by Owen Wilson. Is this Loki a good guy or a bad guy? Is the show just an excuse to crib Doctor Who for 5 episodes until it inevitably tees up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the final installment? Will Twitter spoil every episode before you’ve even finished your coffee? (Disney+)

June 10th

Weekend Getaway With Michelle Buteau: Comedian Michelle Buteau takes some weekend road trips around the country with other comedians buds like Tig Notaro, Sasheer Zamata, and Chelsea Peretti. I just hope they have a really swell time together, they deserve it! (Discovery +)

Infinite: In this dropped-on-streaming movie directed by Antoine Fuqua, Mark Wahlberg plays a very special reincarnated dude who remembers his past lives and gets to hang out with Chiwetel Ejiofor. And according to IMDb, Jason Mantzoukas is there! ZOUKS! (Paramount+)

June 11th

Lupin: Part 2: The gentleman thief returns! This French series starring Omar Sy was a surprise hit when it debuted last year — except it ended on a cliffhanger as Assane’s son was kidnapped by the henchmen of his enemy! Thankfully Part 2 is here to pick up the story and give us our next fix. It’s just a shame that the trailer is so awkwardly dubbed (definitely watch the show with subtitles instead). (Netflix)

In The Heights: Before Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda created a musical love letter to his NYC home in Washington Heights. Now that musical is getting its own big screen adaptation, directed by Jon M Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) and starring Anthony Ramos. It looks like the perfect way to kick off the summer! (In theaters and on HBO Max)

June 13th

Kevin Can F**k Himself: What’s life like for the typical sitcom wife? Seems pretty awful, honestly. Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy stars as one such wife who can’t take any more of her husband’s antics… and so she maybe decides to kill him?! Y’all, this show looks dark AF and I love it. (premieres early on AMC+, then debuts on AMC Network June 20th)

June 18th

Physical: Rose Byrne stars as a tormented 1980s housewife in San Diego who finds power and escape through aerobics, which, like, same. Only make it power yoga and make me bad at it. (AppleTV+)

Luca: In this new Pixar joint, two young mer-monsters disguise themselves as humans and have a Hot Italian Boy Summer. Am I… phrasing that right? (Disney+)

June 20th

Evil (season 2): The paranormal drama starring Mike Colter and Katja Herbers is moving from CBS to Paramount+ for its second season. But hey — at least it’s coming back!

June 25th

False Positive: Ilana Glazer (Broad City) co-wrote and stars in this pregnancy thriller about a woman who becomes convinced something nefariously weird is up with her fertility doctor. Though if my fertility doctor stroked a speculum the way Pierce Brosnan does in the trailer… yeah, I’d be worried too! This modern riff on Rosemary’s Baby comes to Hulu from A24 and also stars Justin Theroux and Sophia Bush. (Hulu)

The Ice Road: A crew of ice road truckers attempts to save a group of miners trapped in a cave collapse, racing against diminishing oxygen, a melting road, and also some light sabotage. Mostly you just need to know that Liam Neeson has reason to growl the phrase, “Now I’m angry” — making this movie basically “Taken Truckers.” (Netflix)

The Mysterious Benedict Society: Based on the popular series of children’s books, a strange benefactor (Tony Hale) recruits four kids to help him unravel a dangerous brainwashing conspiracy… involving his own twin brother! I dunno, it looks super cute. (Disney+)

June 30th

America: The Motion Picture: Matt Thompson (Archer) directs this animated spoof of the American Revolution, which features a chainsaw-wielding George Washington (Channing Tatum) and a voice cast that includes Simon Pegg, Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan, Amber Nash and Lucky Yates. (Netflix)

There are also a lot of returning series this month that are worth noting:

Kim’s Convenience season 5 (final season, Netflix, 6/2)
Why Women Kill season 2 (Paramount+, 6/3)
Feel Good season 2 (Netflix, 6/4)
