Jon Stewart Correctly Identifies the Only Real Cancel Culture in America

Yesterday, I wrote about how conservatives from Kid Rock to Harrison Butker and Morgan Wallen, among others, have actually benefited from “cancel culture.” After liberals expressed outrage over their bigotry, they’ve seen merch and record sales skyrocket. More recently, it appears that people like Kid Rock are even trying to engineer controversy to elicit liberal outrage to enrich themselves.

Essentially, the argument is that cancel culture does not actually exist — it’s merely a branding opportunity. That is true, except as Jon Stewart pointed out on last night’s The Daily Show, in one specific instance: when it involves Donald Trump. Conservatives can attack POC, the LGBTQ community, or Jews all they want without repercussion — in fact, they are often rewarded for it — but if they talk shit about Donald Trump? Then, they’re canceled.

There are very few anti-Trump Republicans remaining in Congress, and that’s because Donald Trump has had them canceled. Everything the right complains the left is doing is what Donald Trump is actually doing to those who dare speak out against him.

“Truth is, Trump is the real cancel culture,” Stewart concludes. “Emphasis on cult. Because on the right, you can say whatever the f**k you want about gay people and trans people, from TikTok to Patreon. You can decry DEI from podcasts to the Governor’s office in Florida. And chances are, you’ll not only be fine, you’ll get a raise. But if you ever dare speak out one iota against Donald Trump, be very afraid.”
