In a report from Deadline, it was revealed that Netflix’s adaptation of the classic anime Cowboy Bebop has found its leads. Mustafa Shakir from Luke Cage will play Jet Black. Daniella Pineda of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will play Faye Valentine. Alex Hassell, who you may recognize from BBC’s The Miniaturist, will play Vicious. Oh yeah, AND JOHN CHO IS PLAYING SPIKE SPIEGEL!

It actually happened!

Remember how in August 2017 we wrote about Cho and how perfect he’d be in that role? Then remember how we brought it up again in September 2018 when he blew us all away in Searching? AND how we counted the fan-casting as one of our faves in May of the same year?

WE GOT IT!

Finally, John Cho shall be appreciated for the kick-ass leading man we always knew him to be, and in the perfect role that has helped to define the past two decades of anime and beyond. What can I say? We’re psyched! The news has added a solid decade to my lifespan.

Cowboy Bebop will be co-produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. The creative team includes Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok), Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg. Alex Garcia Lopez, who has worked on Daredevil and The Punisher, will direct the first two episodes. No news yet on who will play Ein the corgi.
