As I’m sure all of you are aware by now, Glenn Weiss — who won an Emmy for directing the Oscar telecast — proposed to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen during the ceremony on Monday night in what was one of the few — and best — highlights from a show that Che and Jost otherwise could not salvage. I do not like public proposals, and this one could have gone disastrously, but it was sweet and lovely, and why not? How many times do you get an opportunity to propose in front of millions of people (though, ten percent fewer viewers than last year)?
Anyway, Jimmy Kimmel caught up with the couple on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and interviewed them, and Kimmel had the inside lane here because of his relationship with Weiss, who has directed him in the Oscars. And the irony, as we learn from this interview, is that Weiss is typically the guy at these awards ceremonies who is in charge of directing the orchestra to play off awardees if their speeches run long.
I think maybe Weiss got special treatment here, and maybe we should turn that into an OUTRAGE SCANDAL.*
I do hope that they get married during the Oscars, and more than that, I hope that Hannah Gadsby officiates.
*(This is a joke. Please do not turn this into an outrage scandal)
