It’s been a long year, y’all. A lot of frustration, hardship, injustice. At times it can feel like too much to bear. Overwhelming even. Personally, I’ve tried to stay strong and keep moving. I’m an emotional person but have felt the need recently to bottle some feelings up. Today, Jimmy Fallon shattered that bottle.

When I saw a video labeled “Jimmy Fallon Sends Out A Message Of Solidarity,” I assumed it would be funny. Maybe he was taking a moment to joke about the election or just 2020 in general. However, I was surprised to learn that it was actually a very sincere moment for him to reflect on his mother who passed three years ago yesterday.

It got to me. It really did. Not only do I feel for Jimmy and his loss but I adore him for taking the time to reach out to others who may be dealing with a similar pain. That may make a difference in someone’s day or even their life.

There was a humorous tinge to it, of course. Fallon told a heartwarming and funny story about his mother urging him to change his hair. But at its core, the segment was about a man dealing with loss and offering his condolences to others who may be dealing with it as well.

Maybe it was the release I needed, because seeing this show of empathy and solidarity made me weep. Good tears. The best kind. For a moment, I forgot about what was going on in the world and I just felt for other human beings. Thanks, Jimmy. Keep being you.
