When I was twelve, I almost died from an asthma attack. I woke up with a tube down my throat and a catheter in my … downstairs throat. A staph infection mixed with severe allergies triggered another asthma attack and almost killed me again the following year. Those near-death experiences have lived with me ever since, even if I wasn’t fully aware of their severity at the time. I can only imagine what a near-death experience must be like when you’re older and more acutely familiar with death. That’s what happened with Jeremy Renner.
If you haven’t heard the story, Renner was trying to save his nephew and was crushed by a snow plow on January 1st. I was aware of what happened but was ignorant of the details until now. Renner stopped by Jimmy Kimmel: Live to discuss the harrowing accident. He had dozens of broken bones, a collapsed lung, and one of his eyeballs popped out! He then lay there for 45 minutes until he was rescued. It’s hard to imagine what going through that must be like. For Renner, he was more concerned with the people around him.
According to Jeremy, he immediately started thinking about what his nephew must be going through. He speaks at length about other people’s perspectives on the accident. The actor said he even apologized for putting his family through the ordeal. Renner seems humbled by the accident. He shies away from praise. His entire demeanor feels different.
Renner also brings up a message he received from fellow Avenger Paul Rudd. Rudd sent Renner a fake Cameo that is pretty spot on. Jeremy Renner has a long way to recover, but he’s handling it with a smile and some famous support.
