Jeopardy has a new single-day record holder in James Holzhauer, a 34-year-old professional Vegas sports gambler, which is apparently(?) a sustainable profession. He beefed up on informational children’s books before starting what is now a four-day run on the long-running game show.
“They are chock-full of infographics, pictures and all kinds of stuff to keep the reader engaged,” he told The Washington Post via email. “I couldn’t make it through a chapter of an actual Dickens novel without falling asleep.”
Ah yes: He learned it the old-fashioned way: Infographics in children’s books.
In any respect, last night he pulled down over $110,000 in one show, besting the previous record by over $30,000. And that $110,914 figure? It was intentional. His daughter’s birthday is 11/09/14.
The final Jeopardy answer that put him into the record books? “Ironically, a metaphor meaning a huge step forward, but this 2-word process only occurs on a subatomic scale.” The question: “What is quantum leap.”

Holzhauer will attempt to continue his run tonight, but I gotta think that a gambler who does not bet strategically could never best Ken Jenning’s 74-day record. Eventually, he’s going to go all in on a Final Jeopardy question and wipe out. Even still, he’s up near $250,000 in winnings already.
