Emma Boettcher Gets It Already, Trebek! Let's Move On
As we mentioned yesterday, episodes of Jeopardy! are taped so far in advance that contestants aren’t privy to the news stories that episodes that aired previous to theirs might have generated. For instance, James Holzhauer’s began taping his episodes of Jeopardy! in March, and Emma Boettcher taped the episode in which she took down the 33-day champion around the time that Holzhauer’s streak began.
In other words, when Boettcher’s episodes aired, she didn’t know the name James Holzhauer until they informed her before her first episode taped that she’d be playing a guy with a 33-day streak. She didn’t even know who the guy was, much less his Jeopardy! strategy, which probably explains the shrugging eyeroll that Boettcher gave Trebek after her Daily Double wager in last night’s episode.
Emma Boettcher, who defeated the great Jeopardy champ James Holzhauer, is clearly annoyed when, after going all-in on a Double Jeopardy, Alex Trebek tells her, "influenced by James, are we?"— Mark Finkelstein (@markfinkelstein) June 5, 2019
That’s a look that says, “What? I was influenced by the guy I just met and defeated? I have my own strategy, thank you very much, Trebek.”
Emma doesn't like being compared to James and I don't blame her. #Jeopardy— CHANÉL N°1 (@RealChanelNo1) June 4, 2019
I understand the desire to keep a storyline on Jeopardy! running for viewers at home, who are experiencing these episodes one day at a time, but at the same time, let the woman who kicked James Holzhauer’s ass enjoy a storyline separate from that of Holzhauer.
One thing is for sure: Emma came to win. pic.twitter.com/xEJxHlyhEE— Jeopardy! (@Jeopardy) June 4, 2019
“Hey, Alex, I love you, but could we not spend all my time talking about James?” - Emma 🙄 #Jeopardy— Lisa (@WordsPictures1) June 4, 2019
Lmao how much does Emma hate talking about James #jeopardy— Dayna B (@daynabreezy) June 4, 2019
Really into that girl Emma on Jeopardy who beat James yesterday and won again today,— A (@Triforce221B) June 5, 2019
very great energy dare I say sapphic energy we love a girl who don’t give a fuck about men, her vibe is don’t compare me to James I am my OWN WOMAN yes queen long may she reign
Boettcher, by the way, pulled off a win in her second match. She bet $0 on Final Jeopardy because she was far enough ahead that she didn’t have to wager anything. She won $24,600 to bring her two-day total to over $71,000.
