It’s easy to make excuses for shows you love. Maybe you’re watching one of your favorites and they have a week where the episode just … isn’t that good. This can happen a lot, thanks to lethargy or the need for a filler episode, or just as a result of the grueling scheduling that television entails. I have not had this feeling about The Amber Ruffin Show even a single time.
Not only have Amber and her squad gone out, week after week, and delivered the absolute dopest of goods, they often manage to top themselves! Smart takes, hilarious bits, and absurdity that is so thoroughly funny that I often find myself laughing in an attempt to show proper respect. We are watching the beginnings of a classic late-night comedy show, plain and simple.
This week’s episode saw, in my opinion, The Amber Ruffin Show’s greatest sketch yet: A vaccine-themed dance. In lesser hands, the premise could fall flat. Instead, we see a bit so dripping with personality, so incredibly in Amber’s world, that you can’t help but get swept up in it. There is a lot that makes Ruffin’s show so successful, but the proud, unapologetic dose of personality is what really makes it sing (or in this case, dance).
If I could, I would happily hop on a space shuttle or step through an inter-dimensional “beach door” to find myself living in Amber’s world. Until I figure out the logistics for such things, I will happily get a peek into that world, once a week, through her fun and bonkers TV show. There, I will dance. Oh, yes, will I dance!!
