Normally this would be part of Andrew’s late-night TV beat, but he’s on twin duty for a while (everyone, all together: awwwwww!) and gave the go-ahead for me to handle this one.
Look, if you have been watching Conan for a decent length of time, and certainly Timothy Olyphant’s appearances on the show, you also revel in the absolutely chaotic (and somewhat romantic) magic that results when these utter sardonic goofballs are allowed in proximity with one another. Olyphant loves veering from topic to topic, actively frustrating O’Brien’s desire to, in his words, “say one full sentence, even if it kills me.”
In their latest experimental film mislabeled as an interview, they begin with Olyphant not being able to spot Andy among the cardboard cutout audience, weaving through his finishing his college degree at USC, finally impressing his kids with Snoop Dogg calling him a “badass motherf*cker,” his reaction upon hearing about Conan on TBS ending, and, in the below video excerpt, discussing his resemblance to Josh Duhamel and how playing on that slightly backfired with Olyphant’s mom.
Ironically, Duhamel was on Late Night With Seth Meyers telling the same story.
The interview ends with Conan (somewhat violently) promising that Olyphant will be involved in any future projects, regardless of money, friendship, or even permission.
Full interview here.
The Conan finale (with live audience!) airs June 24th on TBS. The Guest with Slightly Shorter Josh Duhamel may or may not premiere the day after.
