Is 'Mad Men's' Peggy Olson Gone for Good? Yes! Maybe.

Two episodes ago, in a heart-wrenching but satisfying sequence, Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) said goodbye to Don Draper and Sterling Cooper Pryce & Draper (now, Sterling Cooper Draper and Harris). There did feel a certain permanence to the sequence, but I’d just assumed that she’d continue to show up, perhaps as a rival exec competing over clients. According to Jared Harris — who was written out of the show permanently this last week — it looks like Moss may not be coming back, after all.

In an interview with The Daily, Jared Harris (who plays Lane Pryce) was asked if he was given a going away party. He said no, but in his answer, he implied that Moss had also left the show for good.

“Actors are always ending jobs. It isn’t a big deal in that sense,” Harris said. “Also other people had left the show that had been there since the beginning. Elisabeth [Moss] left the episode before and she’d been there since the beginning. Michael Gladis left in Season 3… Bryan Batt,” Harris said. “People leave and it’s just part of it. They didn’t make a giant fuss.”

AMC execs haven’t commented specifically on Moss’ status with the show. However, it should be noted that “Mad Men” storylines are very secretive. In fact, Jared Harris didn’t know he’d be written out of the show until he received the script for that particular episode. It’s likely that he has no idea whether Moss will be back. In fact, Moss may not even know if she will return yet, and may not know until storylines are cracked for next season. In the meantime, I hope she spends her time counting that $19,000 a year salary.
