Earlier this month, we learned that — though his character on Law & Order: SVU occasionally uses bagels as props — the actor, Ice-T, had never actually tried a bagel (OR coffee), despite living in NYC for 20 years and being a human on the planet Earth (in his defense, I’d also never had either a bagel or coffee until I moved to Boston at the age of 24, but then again, I grew up on Taco Bell and Hamburger Helper). The fact that Ice-T had never had a bagel stirred an inordinate amount of drama on social media, largely because it’s 2018 and we will latch onto anything that in no way involves Donald Trump.

Last night on The Tonight Show, Ice-T revealed that — since the bagel kerfuffle of early November — he has now tried a bagel and coffee. He’s not a fan of bagels (“why would I want an unsweetened donut”?) or of black coffee, although he does not find coffee with cream and sugar objectionable. It’s just not for him. He prefers tea.

Ice-T says that part of the reason he doesn’t like bagels, besides the fact that they taste like “a loaf of bread,” is that Black people prefer sweet foods. Perhaps, we can persuade Ice-T to try Cynthia Nixon’s bagel of choice: A Cinammon-raisin bagel with cream cheese, lox, red onion, capers, and tomatoes, which — by the way — is exactly how you convince someone who has never eaten a bagel to never eat a bagel again.

Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay also celebrate the fact that they are one year away from becoming the longest-running scripted drama in television history.
