Documentarian Amy Berg, who directed the documentaries Deliver Us from Evil (about the cover-up of sexual abuse within the Catholic church) and West of Memphis (about the West Memphis 3) is tackling the Adnan Syed case with HBO’s four-part series The Case Against Adnan Syed. As Syed’s case — made famous by the first season of the Serial podcast — finds itself back in the court system (the next decision in the matter is due by August), Berg is re-examining the case with what appears to be a slightly different (perhaps tilted) perspective.

While Sarah Koenig’s Serial approached the material fairly objectively, I thought, the interviews with Syed himself couldn’t help but to create a sympathetic character. Here, Berg seems to have access to Hae Min Lee’s family and perhaps an eye toward the evidence against Syed (although, note that Rabia Chaudry — Adnan Syed’s biggest defender — is also involved in the documentary).

I’m among those who suspect that Adnan Syed may have murdered Hae Min Lee, but that the evidence did not support a guilty finding (and that the court system — which was what was really on trial in the first season of Serial — is irreversibly f**ked). I welcome this documentary, too, because I think it’s important to have different perspectives, and I wish that someone would do The Case Against Steven Avery because that dude is guilty as hell.

In any respect, if you think your interest in the case has been exhausted, this two-minute trailer will undoubtedly stoke it again.

The Case Against Adnan Syed debuts Sunday, March 10 on HBO.
