Graham Norton on Britain's Political Meltdown, Plus a Celebrity Blind Item

Graham Norton, who genuinely does host the best celebrity chat show in the business — see, e.g., for instance, a very drunk Mark Wahlberg being an asshole to Sarah Silverman before literally falling asleep on the couch, and here’s a probably tipsy Matt Damon talking about being confused for Mark Wahlberg and, why not, here’s Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Ben Affleck telling embarrassing mother stories — appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to plug his new book (he’s a novelist, too?!)

During the chat, Colbert took the opportunity to ask Norton what the hell is going on with British politics, which is a question that a lot of us have. I read all the British politics pieces here from Hannah, Petr, and Kayleigh, but I still don’t really understand what’s going on. Boris Johnson is flailing, he has lost his majority, and he wants new elections, but the opposition party doesn’t want new elections yet because 1) they don’t want to have them until after Boris Johnson goes down with the Brexit ship, and 2) the opposition party doesn’t have a lot of faith in itself to win, at least until after Boris Johnson’s ship is submerged at the bottom of the ocean? I don’t know what the American equivalent is, but maybe it’s like if the Democrats could choose to have the election now or a year from now, they’d probably choose a year from now after Trump’s trade war has run the economy into the ground. Maybe?

In any respect, Graham Norton doesn’t provide a lot of insight into what’s next for the UK, but he does delightfully crap all over Boris Johnson, “an angry Cabbage Patch Kid,” who “I wouldn’t trust to water my plants while I was away.” He doesn’t really explain, however, why Johnson is still the Prime Minister despite losing his majority.

In the same clip, he also gives us a blind item, of sorts, in regard to one of his more demanding guests. She’s a female who once asked for 9 dressing rooms, and Norton accommodated her. And then she asked for a 10th dressing room? Why? Because she needed a dressing room to plug in her phone.

I have no idea who that could be. I’m not even going to hazard a guess.

Completely unrelated fun fact! On tour, Cher insists that her wigs get their own dressing room.
