There’s a certain double standard around rape jokes, where they’re somehow a-ok if you’re talking about prison rape, molestation, or some other form of violence against men or boys. Which… I mean, we all see why that’s not ok, right? If you don’t, then Samantha Bee is here to help! On Full Frontal, Bee emphasized that 1 out of every 33 men in the US have been victims of attempted or completed rape, meaning that “men are vastly more likely to be sexually assaulted than to be falsely accused of rape.” Not that you’d get the sense that it’s a serious issue based on the frequency of jokes about dropped bars of soap.

Noting that many of the accused predators in the #MeToo era victimized men (as Bee dubbed it:”#MenToo”), Bee points out that when we laugh at their victims “we make it easier for them to keep Kevin Spacey-ing all over the place.” So Bee created a little PSA to remind people that, hey, there are plenty of things that are funny that aren’t prison rape jokes. And she got help from an expert: Terry Crews, a very funny man who has been outspoken about his own experience being sexual assaulted.

So listen to Terry, folks, and “stop telling those fucking jokes.” Try a spit-take instead!

Also, I can’t help but share this message I got from the extraordinary Emily Chambers this morning while discussing this segment:

Also not that you need to include it, but I had a whole thing on the way into work today where I imagined Terry starting a seminar for men who “need” to be taught to not be sexual assaulters. (Like the answer is don’t sexually assault. That’s it.) But the seminars would need to be fun along with being educational so it should be held on one of those luxury ships (because you don’t want these dudes just out in the public with access to people). So he should start Crews’ Cruise: Sexual Abuse Prevention for Dummies. Ba da dum dum.

Ummm WHY WOULD I NOT INCLUDE THAT? That’s amazing. I’m just sad that potential sexual assaulters are the ones who would get to take a Crews’ Cruise.
