Drunk History returned to Comedy Central last night, and it kicked off its sixth season in an epic way: by telling stories around a campfire. While wasted (the episode was appropriately titled “Are You Afraid Of The Drunk?”). Recurring drunk historian Rich Fulcher returned to tell the story of Frankenstein — or rather, the story of the creation of the story of Frankenstein. Get it? Neither did Fulcher. He mostly (delightfully!) fails to thread the needle between historical accuracy and raving lunacy, as evidenced in this clip where the producers can’t even get him to say Mary Shelley’s maiden name correctly (to be fair, he also couldn’t pronounce “stepsister” right either):

(Derek Waters wandering into the woods while laugh/crying and saying “There’s no fucking way!” with a complete lack of faith is my 2019 mood)

But the secret of Drunk History isn’t just the drunken ramblings — it’s the stone-cold sober actors who have to lip-sync along with them. And that’s where this premiere pulled out all the stops. Like, is it weird to say “Evan Rachel Wood was MADE for Drunk History?” Because she is! She just relishes this nonsense! This time around she plays Mary Shelley, opposite Elijah Wood as Percy Shelley and Jack McBrayer as Lord Byron, as she tells them the story of Frankenstein — which is ALSO recreated, with Seth Rogen as Victor Frankenstein and Will Farrell as the Monster.

That’s a lot of star power! But still, by the end of the clip, it’s hard to deny that Evan Rachel Wood is the winner of this non-popularity contest — even if all she has to do is repeatedly pretend to yell “WHAT?!” in more outrageous ways. And Waters agrees! As he told the AV Club, “I don’t pick favorites. Except for Evan Rachel Wood.”

Me too, Derek Waters. Me. Too.
