I’m usually behind when it comes to music. My tastes skew older, so bands or singers that are “Now” don’t find their way into my ears until “Later.” Yet, a few years ago, my wife and I were driving and kept hearing “Don’t Stop Now” by Dua Lipa, and I was hooked. She makes fun Pop music that makes me wanna shake my booty with reckless abandon. Turns out she’s bubbly, charming, and maybe not the best at drinking too much!
Dua took on the unrecommendable event of getting day-drunk with Seth Meyers. I’ve watched many of these segments. They are always good. I can think of few other ongoing late-night bits that are always amazing. The only thing that comes close is Paul Rudd’s Mac & Me fetish. Meyers getting drunk with celebrities (who I now realize are mostly pop stars) is comedy gold. A big reason why it’s so good is that they get full-on wasted.
That was certainly the case with Mizz Lupa. Seth Meyers and Dua Lipa get unreasonably drunk. Meyers, in particular, gets twisted. This is edited, and they’re doing shots, but it’s like a switch is flipped, and suddenly Seth is over the edge. And yet, Dua Lipa has to tap out early, one of the only times I’ve seen that happen! You also get Seth drunkenly telling John Oliver to go back “home.”
Lastly, I may or may not work at a Broadway theater that serves specialty drinks. Early on in this segment, Meyers creates a cocktail for him and Dua Lipa that changes color by adding lemon juice. He says it is unimpressive, and he is correct. Still, I’m here to tell you that I may or may not do a similar “trick” at work, and people often lose their minds over it; It’s embarrassing. It’s the “adult” equivalent of shaking keys to distract a child.
