Drew Carey Thinks Some 'The Price Is Right' Contestants Show Up Wasted

The Price Is Right has been on the air for fifty years. It’s old enough to fall for an AI photo of Jesus hugging Mike Lindell on Facebook. The show is twelve and three-fourths times older than the Confederacy. It has existed through ten different presidents. Though the show has only had two (daytime) hosts: Bob Barker and Drew Carey.

Carey took over for Barker in 2007. It was a big deal, as Barker had been the host since the premiere. Still, Carey quickly embraced the role and seems to have been having the time of his life ever since. You can tell from watching that he appreciates his cushy gig, and, like some sort of unicorn, he’s used his money to help others (god forbid).

Aside from hosting, Carey has been living his best life. He’s a radio DJ on occasion. Now and again, he’ll pop up in a guest role on a TV show. There was that time that he was (obviously) tripping balls at a Phish show at the Sphere and claimed to have met God. That last little bit makes him uniquely qualified for an observation he made recently.

When speaking to TVInsider, Carey claimed that some Price Is Right contestants show up the way he (allegedly) did at the Phish show. “That happens here all the time,” Carey explained. “They’ll have a gummy, or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual. There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to UCB [sketch improv theater, Upright Citizens Brigade] to hang out and they were like, ‘Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?’ I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’ He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.”

To further prove Carey is enjoying doing the show, the interviewer asked about his sign-off. Carey amended Barker’s classic sign-off by adding, “Take care of yourself, especially your mental health. It’s so important, and I love you!” When asked why, Drew explained, “I went through a rough couple of years, and I needed to put my mental health first. It was such a help for me to do that and not succumb to sadness or grief. My therapist and my doctor helped me find tools to not go completely under…You can go into an addiction of feeling depressed and not knowing how to get out.”

Carey continued, saying, “Life can be so much better with love, forgiveness, boundaries, speaking your mind, saying your truth, and living your truthful life. I feel better from being here. So I pass it along.” That Drew Carey is a good dude. A perfect host for people to approach while high off a weed gummy. No judgment here, just wonderful vibes.
