Doctor Strange’s Bernadette Cumberbund Benadryl Kennebunk Benedict Cumberbatch almost made an appearance in WandaVision, according to Rolling Stone. Kevin Feige told the publication that the original idea, of having Strange teach Wanda about using the chaos magic she recently discovered was her birthright, was written out to avoid the show being “commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’” It’s a fair point, though it’s not difficult to see the obvious thematic tie-in between WandaVision and the Multiverse of Madness. It’s a common enough trope in the Marvel Universe that you can understand why they dropped it - pity they didn’t get rid of the whole “hero fights a funhouse mirror version of themselves,” which in this writer’s view detracted from the truly great horror and thriller vibe running through the first few episodes.

WandaVision is not likely to get a second season, but Elizabeth Olsen is already set to star alongside Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where I’ve no doubt her chaos powers will play a key role. More importantly, from my perspective, the new film will also introduce us to fan-favorite America Chavez, aka Miss America, played by Xochitl Gomez of Netflix’s The Babysitter’s Club. Chavez is a young Hispanic American hero who, for typically convoluted reasons, gets bounced through the multiverse before arriving in the main Earth-616 timeline. An instrumental member of Teen Brigade, Young Avengers, A-Force, and the Ultimates, Chavez has super strength, super speed, can fly, and is capable of punching star-shaped holes in the fabric of reality, because of course she can. Miss America punches her way into our hearts when Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on March 25, 2022.
