Yesterday Netflix announced that former president and first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, have inked a multi-year deal with the streaming service to create content that includes TV and films, scripted and unscripted, narrative and documentary. The Obamas have set up Higher Ground Productions for this endeavor. In a statement, Barack said, “We hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.” Michelle added, “Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”

Beyond these vague aspirations, we have no idea what kind of content the Obamas will be making or who they’ll be making it with. CNN predicts we could see the first productions from this unexpected (and spectacular) deal as early as 2019. And I predict that President* Donald Trump wasn’t super stoked to log onto Twitter yesterday to see the Obamas trending.

Not everyone was excited. Conservatives are calling for their peers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. Because when liberals boycott, it’s censorship and oppression, but when they do it, it’s patriotism.

This isn’t the first time conservatives have boycotted Netflix. Remember how riled they got when the Dear White People trailer dropped? That show went on to score critical praise and a second season. Per CNN, Netflix boasts around 125 million subscribers. So, should they fear the consumer might of conservatives? Probably not.
