I’ve never really had a “celebrity crush.” The idea never made sense to me. Why crush on someone you will likely never meet? My mind could never jump that hurdle. In high school, I had a very intimate dream about Ugly Betty. Not accomplished comedic actress America Ferrera but her television character Ugly Betty. That’s as close as I have gotten to having a celebrity crush. So, I can’t even imagine what Conan O’Brien must have felt when his celebrity crush jokingly proposed a threesome.

O’Brien sat down with actor and activist Jane Fonda this week. Right off the bat, Conan makes it clear that he had a massive crush on Fonda when he was a child. She takes that ball and runs with it. What follows is Conan being more flustered than I have ever seen him. Fonda jokes about being “one of those women who have a husband that could be their son.” Sona and Gourley are cracking up, and Conan seems to have an out-of-body experience.

Fonda is so sharp and quick. It’s not just that she’s trying to help Conan live out some childhood fantasy; she’s trying to get a rise out of him. When it’s suggested that she and Conan will be together, she volunteers to break the news to Conan’s wife. Then, upon learning Conan and Liza have been married for 21 years, she suggests a threesome instead. Conan’s head practically explodes at that point.

While I have never had a celebrity crush for practical reasons, Conan does make it seem possible. If you crush on someone long enough, work hard in the entertainment field for decades, and eventually create your own successful podcast, you could meet your celebrity crush. They may even recommend hopping into bed with you and your partner. Are they serious? No. But you won’t care.
