Leave it to Corporate America to take advantage of a tough time! If you haven’t heard already, GAP recently posted a red and blue hoodie on Twitter with a caption claiming that “together, we can move forward.” The tweet was… not well received. As it shouldn’t be. It was a gross attempt to capitalize on a hectic election. But Conan O’Brien is here to tell you that GAP isn’t the only company up to no good!

In a bit that literally made me cackle in my living room, the late-night host presented a series of tweets from other companies attempting to use the current political landscape for some PR gain. Turns out everyone from Count Chocula to Fancy Feast was making some inappropriate tweets! (At this time I’d like to point out that I know these tweets aren’t real, lest you think me stupid.)

This bit is prime Conan. The inherent silliness and absurdity, the fact that the tweets start off as plausible and then take a sharp turn into “that’s definitely not real” territory, all topped off by Conan and Andy barely able to keep a straight face. It is also right in O’Brien’s apolitical wheelhouse.

I’m not saying corporations should never make statements about current issues. There just has to be tact and purpose. It can’t just be a transparent attempt to get a few extra Twitter followers.
