We’ve all been pretty captivated by the implosion of Roseanne Barr and the cancellation of her sitcom. But as a person who fucking loves television, I wanted to offer a reminder of its capacity to support non-racist and thoroughly delightful talent. Besides — it’s Wednesday and if you’re like me, maybe you want to ignore work for a bit and fall into a YouTube hole of pure joy. So in “Television That Isn’t Cancelled” news: let’s watch the cast of DuckTales work some magic, shall we?

Last night I was browsing YouTube (for work purposes!), and stumbled across a DuckTales cast reading that was performed live at the Disney Channel GO! Fan Fest earlier this month. Danny Pudi (Huey), Bobby Moynihan (Louie), Ben Schwartz (Dewey), Kate Micucci (Webby), Toks Olagundoye (Mrs. Beakley), and of course David Tennant (Scrooge McDuck) were reading the script for “McMystery at McDuck McManor!”, which is all about Huey trying to throw a birthday party for Scrooge. And Scrooge, of course, is cranky and not in the mood. Meanwhile, Dewey dresses up as Daft Punk for the party, and instead of speaking he carries a keytar programmed with his own voice saying various phrases. Which is a long-winded way of explaining why, during this reading, Ben Schwartz is fucking around on a keytar while everyone around him struggles to keep their shit together. Fast forward to around the 9-minute mark to get to the good stuff.

I’m sorry, but the existence of this show is basically all that gives me hope, sometimes. ANYWAY, whilst watching noted Shakespeare performer David Tennant fail to blow on a duckbill whistle in front of a bunch of kids, I noticed that other Tennant-centric clips were being suggested by my pal YouTube. And this is how I realized that I’d missed his recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show. WHAT AM I EVEN DOING WITH MY LIFE?

Turns out, most of his appearance was spent being completely embarrassed. First up, here’s Graham showing a picture of David with his wife Georgia and her father, former Doctor Who star Peter Davison… only for David to realize he’s wearing the EXACT SAME SUIT that he was in the photo.

And here’s David Tennant watching his 15-year-old self perform in his first acting gig: an anti-smoking film for the Glasgow health board. It’s… something, alright.

Look, we can still keep throwing attention at Roseanne’s antics, but let’s also take a moment to appreciate the good shit we have, like the excellent cast and writing of DuckTales, and the researchers at The Graham Norton Show, and of course — David Tennant.
