For an actor who hasn’t actually made any statements or appearances this week, it’s been a very bad one for the career of Bill Murray. Earlier this week, Geena Davis — in her memoir — recounted incidents with Murray on the set of Quick Change, where the actor both harassed her and berated her in front of the rest of the crew. We also learned the details behind the Bill Murray incident that shut down production of Aziz Ansari’s Being Mortal: Murray basically threw himself on a production assistant “as a joke.”

These are new revelations, but for anyone who has been paying attention to Murray’s career, they certainly aren’t the first reports of bad behavior. He berated and insulted Lucy Liu on the set of Charlie’s Angels, he threw things at Richard Dreyfus on the set of What About Bob?, and he was so bad on Bob and Groundhog Day that it cost him his friendship with Harold Ramis. (And you should hear what his ex-wife had to say about him).

So, while I would typically discount anything that former SNL star Rob Schneider has to say — because he’s Rob Schneider — I’m inclined to believe him when he says that Murray was a terror on the set of SNL when he hosted.

“That’s the same thing with Bill Murray … you don’t know who you’re gonna get,” Rob Schneider told SiriusXM’s Jim Norton & Sam Roberts. “Which Bill Murray you’re gonna get. The nice Bill Murray? Or you’re gonna get the tough Bill Murray?’ He’s super nice to fans. He wasn’t very nice to us. … He wasn’t very — he hated us on ‘Saturday Night Live’ when he hosted. Absolutely hated us. I mean, seething.”

It’s one thing to hate Rob Schneider, but Murray apparently hated Adam Sandler and Chris Farley, too.

” … He hated Chris Farley with a passion. Like he was just seething looking at him. I don’t know exactly, but I want to believe that it’s because Chris thought it was cool to be Belushi - who [was] his friend who he saw die - that he thought it was cool to be that out of control. That’s my interpretation, but I don’t really know. I don’t believe it. I only believe it 50%. He just hated, like, all of us, pretty much. The least of the hate was to me….I took great pleasure in that he hated me less. (laughs) Because he’s my hero. …. You just saw the way he looked at him, and it was just naked rage, you know? ….I mean he hated Sandler. Really hated Sandler, too. Murray. He just wasn’t into that groove of it, you know? And Sandler was just committed to it, and just like…as soon as he would get on, you could see the audience just ate him up, you know? Which also really irritated Al Franken.”

All of these stories, in totality, paint a damning portrait of Murray, who is apparently a joy to be around when the cameras are on or if he’s out in public. But as a co-worker? Clearly, he’s a difficult man. You know things are bad when even Rob Schneider is piling on.
