Bill Hader Leaving "Saturday Night Live" Effective Saturday

After eight years, and after creating one of the all-time greatest “SNL” characters in Stefon, Bill Hader will be leaving the show, effective after this week’s show. As Hader told the NYTimes:

It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point,” Mr. Hader said in an interview. “It got to a point where I said, ‘Maybe it’s just time to go.’ “

Hader will leave, along with Seth Meyers — who is replacing Jimmy Fallon on “Late Night” — and perhaps Jason Sudeikis, who nearly left at the end of last season, and Fred Armisen, who some speculate may also leave.

Among the reasons that Hader is leaving, according to the Times, is partly because “seeing friends like Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig leave last season, and partly by a desire to move his family to Los Angeles. His wife, Maggie Carey, is getting busier with her filmmaking career, which includes the forthcoming comedy “The To Do List.” Meanwhile Mr. Hader said he had worked on three live-action features and four animated films during the current season of “SNL” alone.”

So long, Hader. And Stefon, and James Carville and Vincent Price. We look forward to your inevitable success, and return as host of an “SNL” episode.
