There’s only one reason to sing about white supremacists. In this day and age, you’d think there’d be more but there’s not. I checked. No, the only reason to sing about white supremacists is when they’re facing sweet, powerful consequences for their dumb, hateful actions. Just ask Amber Ruffin, who just sang a perfect ode to white supremacists with her sidekick Tarik!
It’s always fun to hear Amber and Tarik sing, but this one hit extra hard and has been stuck firmly in my head. I, like Amber, was also concerned that a lot of the rioters from the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. would not be dealt their comeuppance! Luckily, there have been various arrests of those same people over the last week, with more to come. The best part is that a lot of these arrests have been caught on video!
I don’t always love watching people’s lives come apart for everyone to see but … but I’ll make an exception in this case. Amber’s song gets these complicated feelings across in a very effective way. There’s a degree of shame I feel, for laughing at these people and for the state this country is in … but the joy I feel, the unbridled joy shooting through my body as these people get cuffed and dragged off… I will not fight that feeling, is my point. I’m just going to let the song carry me away.
