The world of the Fallout video games is vast and scary. It’s populated by monsters, robots, and the scariest threat: human beings who have survived an apocalyptic event. There are some good people, of course, but more often than not you’re dealing with people hardened by a world that’s out to hurt them. They will do anything to survive, and those instincts are on full display in the newest trailer for Amazon’s Fallout.

The new trailer sees star Ella Purnell adjusting to being out and about in this scary new world. We see her emerging from a comfortable vault that has hidden her from the horrors that haunt a world 200 years removed from the apocalypse. She’ll have to toughen up to survive, like so many have had to do before her. Luckily, she’ll possibly have a little help from Walton Goggins.

Goggins will be playing a Ghoul in the new series. Ghouls are characters from the game who were radiated by the previously mentioned apocalypse, causing a loss of skin and a tendency to go feral or be struck by “The Illness.” Goggins appears to be a Ghoul who has retained his faculties and is holding his own in this strange and dangerous world. It appears he will be a friend to Purnell’s lead, but it’s hard to trust anyone in a world as mad as Fallout’s.

This trailer also gives us an excellent glimpse at the fleshed-out world of the game. The vaults look exquisite (accompanied by a smiling Kyle MacLachlan). The monsters are bug-nuts and scary. We even see the villainous Brotherhood of Steel, floating above all in their signature airship. Fans of the games should be more than excited by the accuracy (I know I am). Whether the story is up to snuff will be another question.

This new trailer has my attention. The world of Fallout is exciting enough, and seeing Jonathan Nolan’s take on it adds to that anticipation. But we all know what the real draw here is. Goggins. Goggins. Goggins.
