ABC Brings You The Mid-30s Crisis Night!
Survivor on CBS at 8:00pm ET. 90-minute 37th season premiere.
Modern Family on ABC at 9:00pm ET. 10th season premiere.
Single Parents on ABC at 9:31pm ET. Series premiere. A sitcom about Taran Killam as a single parent to a seven-year-old girl, who’s become so engrossed in her life he doesn’t have one of his own. His other single-parent friends try to get him back out in the dating world. I know why sitcom writers like “dating” as a theme (lots of easy ways to bring in new characters that can be quickly swapped out!) but I feel like it’s also now treated as a solution to all the problems you can have while single, and it’s not. Hobby groups are also great, as is volunteering for a cause you enjoy. Dating is not the only way to start socializing more, and I feel like more low-stakes friendly socializing is a better way to ease back into things if you feel like you’re lonely. But that’s me, maybe compulsively dating for the sake of dating works for other people!
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FXX at 10:00pm ET.
A Million Little Things on ABC at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. I keep confusing the title for A Million Little Pieces and then getting confused when none of the characters in the promo seem to be a drug-addicted liar. In case you’re thinking “But that guy was exposed as a fraud, there’s no way they’d adapt the book” then I have bad news for you. Especially if you’re a fan of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Anyway, this is just about a group of old friends who feel “stuck in life”, and then one of them dies unexpectedly, which spurs the rest of them to “finally start living.” Also “they discover that friends might be the one thing that can save them from themselves.”
