Empire on Fox at 9:00pm ET. Every so often I’m tempted to check back in on this to see where they ended up after a pretty strong first season but there’s enough GOOD TV out there that it feels entirely unnecessary.

One Day at a Time on Pop at 9:30pm ET. Fourth season premiere. Fresh on cable from Netflix!

Council of Dads on NBC at 10:02pm ET. Series premiere. Based on this book about a man who is diagnosed with cancer and enlists a “council of dads” to help raise his children after he’s gone. The title made me assume a light-hearted comedy series so in case you had similar assumptions, beware.

Hot Ones: The Game Show on TruTV at 10:30pm ET. Tonight’s guest is Jeff Goldblum.
