Spoilers

In tonight’s episode of True Detective, “Maybe Tomorrow,” one the pivotal moments for Frank Semyon was the death of Stan by an unknown assailant. Poor Stan: “He deserved better,” Frank said, before rounding up a few of his former criminal associates, accusing them of going after him, and then beating the shit out of Danny Santos to prove that he’s still in the game.

But here’s the big question of the night, given the supposed importance of Stan’s death.

WHO THE FUCK IS STAN?

You’re not the only person asking that question.

Well, if you’re worried that you missed something, you can stop worrying. Stan is no one. Stan was basically henchman #4 in Frank’s crew. He was played by Ronnie Gene Blevins. He had two scenes. In the first episode, he was in a flashback scene (barely), standing behind Vince Vaugh’s Frank (he’s the one in the middle).

In the second episode, he pepper sprayed a bookie in the eyes on Frank’s behalf.

That’s Stan. That’s all there is.

The only real curiosity here, however, is why Ronnie Gene Blevins — a fairly prolific character actor — was reduced to such a tiny role on the show?

All well. RIP Stan. We hardly knew you, Stan. Seriously.
